Confidence Pools
Confidence pools are a concept brought to SportsFilter by njsk8r20 (now better known as MrFrisby) in this thread proposing a first pool for the 2006 Olympic hockey tournament. The idea was received with a lot of enthusiasm by SpoFi members.
The early days
DrJohnEvans took over administrative duties for the first pools, and hosted and updated standings on his personal site. Picks were made in the Locker Room, and hand-collected by the good Dr. Here are these pools:

The golden age
Confidence pools turned out to be very popular. Since we couldn't expect DrJohnEvans to manage them all, qbert72 built an online confidence pool manager, with the kind help of DrJohnEvans and njsk8r20. Now anyone could start and manage a confidence pool:
