Site Features
What is the locker room?
The Locker Room is an area to discuss topics specifically about the site: bugs, the quality of front page links, feature suggestions, fantasy leagues, meet-ups, etc. The locker room is more casual than the front page of SportsFilter, and a good place to learn more about the site as well as become more active in the community.
What is the side line?
The side line lives on the left of the front page of SportsFilter. Admins use this space to highlight site happenings, fantasy league activity, and other SportsFilter related news.
What are SportsFilter columns?
SportsFilter allows members to submit columns for publication. Unlike the front page of SportsFilter no link is required. Columns should be 500 - 700 words and cover a sports related subject. Member columns can also be submitted. SportsFilter reserves the right to make editorial changes.
Membership
How do I sign up for a SportsFilter account?
After making sure you've read the SportsFilter guidelines, you can sign up for an account. There will be a short quiz to make sure you're not a robot.
Can I change my username?
At this point, no. If you'd like to change your name your best option is to create a new account and on your profile page link back to your old username.
Do I need to put an email in my profile?
While not required presently, giving an email address in your profile is encouraged. An email address allows a member to be more active in the community.
Can I change my password?
Currently there is not a way for a member to easily change their password. If an emergency situation arrives, please contact an admin.
Can I have more than one account?
There is no rule against having more than one account. However, if multiple accounts are created to troll the SportsFilter community or cause trouble, all accounts will be banned.
Can I delete my account?
No.
Administration
If an FPP (front page post) has been removed or deleted, can I still find it?
Posts are linked by sequential numbers. But finding the missing numbers in the sequence, you can find the deleted posts.
Why was my post deleted?
Did it break the guidelines? Was the link posted already? Is it a minor change in a story already linked recently? Is the topic banned?. If you can answer no to all these questions, feel free to email an admin.
Why was my comment deleted?
If your comment was deleted, chances are it broke the guidelines. If you feel the need for an explanation, contact an admin.
Are self-links ever okay on any part of the site?
Self-links are not allowed on the front page of SportsFilter. Self-links are sometimes allowed in the comment section if they pertain to the post topic.
If a comment has been removed or deleted, can I still find it someplace?
No. Once a comment is deleted, it's gone forever.
What if I see a comment or post that breaks the guidelines? Why isn't anything being done about it?
Chances are an admin has not seen the problem. If enough time passes that you believe the problem has been missed, feel free to contact an admin with your concern.
Who is in charge here?
Rcade handles server administration, programming, accounting and taxes. Kirkaracha is the main web designer, and Justgary leads on administrative and editorial duties.
I submitted a column but it hasn't been published. What gives?
A SportsFilter admin has to approve the column before publication. If your column remains unpublished after a few days, the admin has decided against publication. Here's a few examples of what SportsFilter is looking for: #1 #2 #3 #4. If you're still not sure why your column wasn't published, contact an admin.
Community
Does SportsFilter have fantasy leagues?
SportsFilter members are very active in fantasy sports. Member created leagues pop up frequently in the locker room, and are often noted on the sidelines.
I'd like to chat about sports with other members.
There is no official SportsFilter chat room. However, members have created a room at campfire and one on IRC. More information can be found in the chat wiki article. Game time chats are often announced in the locker room.
I'd like to help support SportsFilter. Where can I donate?
SportsFilter members have helped with financial support in the past. Currently, SportsFilter is advertise supported.
Where can I get a SportsFilter shirt? Mug?
You can get SportsFilter merchandise from both spreadshirt or CafePress. A very small portion of the cost goes to help support SportsFilter. SportsFilter swag is designed by site member goddam out of the goodness of her heart.
Miscellaneous
I see dancing bananas. I don't get it.
Dancing bananas pop up on SportsFilter from time to time (mainly in the locker room). They've become something of a mascot.
What is the Costanza award
The Costanza award is often given to the last place finisher in SportsFilter fantasy leagues. The award is often shown with great pride on member pages.
