Welcome to the SportsFilter Wiki!

Introduction

SportsFilter is a community weblog, founded in 2002, and based on the model of its parent site, MetaFilter. Anyone can contribute a sports-related link and participate in discussions. The range of topics covers anything in the world of sports—football, baseball, soccer, Olympics, etc.—to sports personalities, culture and the impact of sports on society.

Getting Started

  • FAQ - a good place for newbies to get them answered. If you have a question, look for it here first.
  • Guidelines - a place to learn about the rules that govern the community.
  • The Index page is automatically updated and lists all the pages on the site alphabetically. If something is lost it might be here.

Membership

SportsFilter members can post links to the front page, leave comments, and customize the site's appearance and content. Becoming a member requires a sense of responsibility for the site. To understand what a quality link entails, check out our link guidelines. To learn more about what's expected of members, read the new user message. If you think you would like to become a member of this community, sign up.

Leadership

The server administration, programming, accounting and taxes are handled by user Rcade. Kirkaracha is the main web designer, and Justgary leads on administrative and editorial duties. Collectively this group is known as The Pantheon.

Chatrooms

There is no official chat site for the community, but there is information available about how you can communicate with members outside of the cozy confines of the website.

Fantasy Leagues

SportsFilter members are very active in fantasy sports. Member-created leagues pop up frequently in the locker room, and are often noted on the sidelines.

Meetups

SpoFi members are not just Internet nerds. Sometimes they meet in real life. Usually they have a lot of fun while doing so. Here is a list of SportsFilter meetups.

Interviews

Over the years worldcup2002 has conducted interviews with vaious members of his choosing. Many were lost in The Great Database Purge; however, some were salvaged via the original wiki.

About this wiki

What is a Wiki?

A Wiki is a special kind of user-editable website. The purpose of this Wiki is to produce and maintain a general guide for the community weblog called SportsFilter. Feel free to browse the guide as a reader/lurker and do not hesitate to contribute.

If you're interested in contributing, you'll need to register (see the top right of the page) after which you'll be able to edit. You can't hurt the wiki, but if you persistently try to break it, you might find yourself IP-banned. Please see the About page for more on what we're trying to achieve here and why. If you're still confused, check out the short guide What is a wiki and the Editing Help pages. We encourage you to participate in our Wiki.
